I get to meet a ton of amazing people in the sales and marketing consulting world; helping people build their companies and teams, finding customers and capital, simplifying the mayhem along the way by using a system for building success in sales and marketing. Yes, a system.
Sales results happen because of consistent, focused activity. Activity happens because we set goals and are willing to be accountable to our sales manager, the boss, a coach and most of all, to ourselves. (If you can’t be loyal and committed to success yourself how could anyone else learn to be loyal to you and want to follow your example?)
One of the most forgotten, yet powerful, activities for sales results and building relationships is the power of writing personal notes. I can’t emphasize this enough. Here’s why …
1. Writing and sending personal notes is marketing. And the process of sending personal notes can be automated today into your marketing automation systems.
2. People remember personal notes. It’s one of the most engaging ways to “touch” someone.
3. The top professionals in sales market themselves. They don’t sit on their butts waiting for leads from marketing. Most of these pros send personal notes and follow up in many other ways that build trust and highly engaged relationships and bonds.
I had breakfast today with a man who provides people with a system just for writing personal notes; highly personalized notes that engage people like no email, video or sales letter can touch for effective engagement and response. He’s been using this system since he started his own greeting card company just for sales professionals. He built it and sold it. It’s one of his many success stories in business and life. This guy, Steve we’ll call him, is the real deal. He is super successful because he focuses on building and maintaining relationships by sending people personal notes.
I will tell you more about this man, this story, as the days and weeks unfold. I share this because when I meet people like Steve I want to learn more about their success stories, their failures too, and share them with you so you can also be more successful. He has already shared a number of stories that demonstrate amazing sales talent as a relationship builder, which is how he and ever other person ultimately achieves their success. It’s all about what I call, “REALationships.”
Keep going after the business and life of your dreams by making it a goal to write or send one personal note a day. Start there and see what happens. It’s a lost art that should never be forgotten. Practice it.
