Infusionsoft Consultant Shares Insight To Close the Gap On Strategy and Tactics
As an Infusionsoft Consultant working in the trenches with small business owners since 2008, what has become crystal clear to me is that the single biggest point of frustration for business owners is the gap between strategy and tactics.
Strategy is the big picture. Tactics relate to the actual implementation of the strategy, based on your goals.
The bottom line here is that if you are not crystal clear on your strategy, where you want to go, and have a work flow process clearly mapped out to get you there, your frustration level will be higher than it needs to be.
Every week I am reminded of this when working with clients. Recently, I worked with two business owners who don’t really want to be bothered by the “software stuff.” This is quite normal. Like most business owners, they excel at the big picture and doing what they do best to bring in the cash flow and knock out the work. They both have small teams surrounding them. And therein lies the gap.
The gap to which I refer lies between what the owner sees and wants for the business, in a big picture way, and what the team can do to implement tactically, with or without the Infusionsoft software. (This is true regardless of the software. It just so happens that my team and I work most frequently with Infusionsoft clients.)
So how do you close the gap between getting what you want (big picture) and enabling your team, whether employees or outsourced talent such as what we provide, to execute effectively?
Follow these three simple steps to close the gap on strategy and tactics.
1. Be clear on your vision and map out the steps you want and need your team to implement. Use a white board, yellow pad, or any tool you feel most comfortable.
2. Schedule a strategy and planning session to communicate your vision and desired work flow to your team and get their input. While you may feel you are clear on what you want, you need to make sure your entire team is aligned with you. The Infusionsoft Campaign Builder is exceptional for this if you already have the software.
3. Have an Infusionsoft consultant or someone who knows the capabilities of the software application to facilitate the meeting. This is important because you and your team need to know how your vision and workflow can be fulfilled within the application itself.
Remember, not all consultants are created equally. This is true when engaging an Infusionsoft consultant or any consultant for your business.
Some consultants excel at strategy. Others may excel at the technical aspects of software or a specialized skill set.
The key for you as a small business owner is finding a consultant who communicates well with you, does what is needed within your budget and time frame and who can also meld your strategy with the tactical elements of implementing your marketing campaigns.
In closing, the ultimate measure of closing the gap between strategy and tactical implementation, within any system for your business, is you.
You must be clear on what you want, communicate this well to your team (including your Infusionsoft consultant or any other) and ensure you are managing the process well over time.
Remember, your success in your business is not a one-time event. Ask any successful entrepreneur what it takes to be successful over time. You will likely learn, if you don’t know this already, that your vision and business will evolve over time and that dogged persistence is one of the most integral aspects of success.
